Amanda Hoskin, Landscape Stories

Watching the Sun Going Down, Not a Sound
300mm x 295mm, oil on paper
£700
Tomorrow we open a new exhibition of paintings by Amanda Hoskin.  Cornwall in all its lovely guises.  Quiet evening sunsets, silent river stillness, beautiful light across the bay, images framed with the glories of Cornish hedgerows, overflowing with wild flowers.
Towards Menabilly, Daffodils and Sunlight
330mm x 695mm, oil on paper
£1150
Amanda has taken her paints and her sketchbooks and explored her favourite places.  Living in Fowey many of these are also places that DuMaurier used as inspiration for her writing.  Both artist and writer capturing the mystery and magic of this ancient landscape.

“ I decided to visit many of the areas described in Du Maurier’s novels. Seeing these places through her books and her imagination and then using the way I work to connect with the landscape has been a very interesting process. Her fascination with Cornish history has also provided a sense of the landscape of the past. Working on Bodmin Moor, time stands still where only the sky or light seems to change or Polridmouth Beach on a stormy morning with the sky a pinkish grey and the rocks black and menacing, images of Daphne Du Maurier characters would come to mind. For me she has put into words the landscape of Cornwall.”

Silence of the River Fowey
565mm x 640mm, oil on paper
£1750
It is a lovely collection of paintings, infused with a peaceful mood and created in a very fine, seemingly magical, manner.  Amanda's sensitive splattering and perfectly placed marks working themselves into light on water, flowers on the cliff tops, distant masts and faraway homes.
Please join us at the gallery for an evening view with wine and canapés, on Friday 5th July from 6pm.  The artist will be there and there will be a chance to see her brilliant sketchbooks, which will take your breath away!
There is also a hard backed book published to compliment this exhibition which contains many pages from her sketchbooks and the paintings that those sketches inform.  It costs £25.00 and can be brought with a few clicks from our web site or from the gallery.
Morning Light Fills Pont Pill, View from my Kitchen
205mm x 540mm, oil on paper
£800
The exhibition is part of the summer long series of shows under the title of "Cornish Light".  Amanda's work will be in the downstairs gallery from Friday 5th July until Wednesday 17th July.
